Dead-Lines
Original
Title: ”Strax Dax”
Music and Lyrics: Mikael Ramel / 1976
Lyrics into english: Roy Colgate
I´ve seen them leaving in the morning –
turning to wave the wife goodbye and then they´re off
into the world again –
To offices they run – the rat race has begun –
Automatic men – they´re on the move again –
Hurrying round – Dead-lines –
Scurrying round – Dead-lines to meet again.
Young children
rushing to the schoolyard –
a soldier to his regiment – a connoisseur who looks too
confident –
In just a little while – the town has come alive –
It wakes up with a start – and sleeps again till five
–
Hurrying round – Dead-lines –
Scurrying round – Dead-lines to meet again.
No more waiting,
hesitating – press to start the show –
the computer has decided when they come and where they go –
Running this way – and running that way –
But following the rules –
for if they should go a different way – they´re
looked upon as fools.
A rise in wages
and performance –
will put them several years ahead – a better job - who
cares if tears are shed?
Dreaming of success – determined to progress –
A fight to reach the top – a race against the clock –
Hurrying round – Dead-lines –
Scurrying round – Dead-lines to meet again.
I´ve seen
them leaving in the evening –
they hear a buzzer or a bell and then they´re off back
home to sleep at last –
living in a trance – they´re left without a chance
–
prisoners of routin – no one to intervene –
Is it a crime – Dead-lines –
Taking one´s time – Dead-lines again, again.
